This weekend was the annual Peony Festival in my area. There are over 300 varieties of peonies in the gardens. In its 8th year, the free event now attracts many visitors from this region and beyond.
A few artists had stalls featuring watercolours, painted screens, bits of jewelry, sculptures and other assorted wares. These dancers sprang up, unannounced, on the grass. Whether the language I heard being spoken by their leader was Mandarin or Cantonese I don't know, but they danced to the accompaniment of a single drum. (The peony is a flower of great cultural significance in China.)
Thank you for visiting.
I'm linking with "Mosaic Monday" at Little Red House.

The peonies are just beautiful. What a lovely festival. Sounds like fun, your photos are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've been to the peony festival and just loved all the varieties we saw. Thanks for bringing back a good memory. There were no dancers the year I went. ;-)

I love peonies, but have never been to a peony festival. Must google one in my area.
ReplyDeleteThe variety of peonies is amazing. The white with yellow centers just look darling. Yes, there are a few things that, though I've lived here nearly all my life, I've missed.
ReplyDeleteThe Peonies are beautiful. One of my favorite flowers. I've never been to a peony festival. How fun to have the dancers just spring up dancing. What a nice surprise.
ReplyDeleteWow you have peonies festival? Love these flowers and I have two and they smell great.

A Peony festival....I love it! I wish they had something like this in our neighborhood. What an amazing idea! Peonies (next to hydrangeas) are my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day!

A peony festival would be something I would love to attend. They are such gorgeous flowers - my post today is featuring them as well. But I don't know of any peony festivals around here. One place I want to visit in my town this summer is Hatley Castle, an early 20th century home with beautiful gardens.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful peonies! The festival looks fun. What a gorgeous day!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I wish I could be there! Peonies...Love`em! Here in Moscow will a garden festival too. Hope I find a time to visit it :o)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week
love

What a delight to visit a peony festival in the park! Wonderful photos and mosaics. Have a super day! Pam

Peonies are definitely worthy of their own festival...such fancy flowers! Great photos from the celebration.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are gorgeous! I have a bush of the white ones that look like large daisies. Where is the festival? Your location is listed as Canada but it is a large country. Mr. B and I love Nova Scotia and if the festival is there, perhaps we could visit it one day. His stepmother lives in the Annapolis Valley.
ReplyDeleteThe peonies are lovely and the peony festival sounded like fun. Peonies have all but faded in our area....all too soon. We went to a strawberry festival yesterday for some festival fun and strawberry shortcake. Mine are starting to ripen in droves.

What beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing! Came here from your Facebook page!
ReplyDelete...and I thought there were just red and pink peonies? These are beautiful photos and it is fun to see the great variety. The dancers must have made the day extra special.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures! I am so happy I popped by to visit you this morning. It looks like you had glorious weather too. I must confess that come summer in the Loire Valley there is a glut of garden and cultural festivals and it is so very hard indeed to chose between them all. The one we return to each year is the International Garden Festival at Chaumont sur Loire.

Such beautiful flowers, great series shared!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely festival makes our recent visit to a local Peony Farm seem very tame in comparison.
ReplyDeleteThe second mosaic is so calming to look at. I would like to read a book and unwind underneath these trees!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are lovely, the peonies are very pretty and lots of lovely colour. Looks like you had a nice day for it too.
ReplyDeleteTeż bym z przyjemnością poszła na ten festiwal. Było pięknie, kolorowo i z pewnością pachnąco. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to go to this festival. It was beautiful, colorful and certainly pachnąco. Yours.
