It's difficult for me to imagine living in a place that enjoys year-round blooms.
My garden is resting, wrapped up in a white duvet of snow.
My garden is resting, wrapped up in a white duvet of snow.
Meet my lilac tree, now and then.
The young magnolia, now and then.
The blue arbour with roses, clematis and nearby hydrangeas, now and then.
The blooms will return, perhaps appreciated even more given their long absence.
For now, I'll enjoy the snow. Mustn't wish my life away!

Blooms year round? It would be a dream. My lilacs are enjoying snowy limbs as we speak.
ReplyDeleteI think the winter months are so beneficial to so many plants. We have a slight winter - but just not cold enough and too hot for lilacs - sure do miss those fragrant blooms! Hope you have a great week,
ReplyDeleteKathy
Hi Karen
ReplyDeleteYou have a gorgeous backyard with, and without blooms. I don't think I'd like to garden 12 months of the year, I like the break.
Your magnolia has a very appealing shape to it.

Great pictures...what a good idea to compare. Of course I like the the then more than the now since we have snow too.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenes and photos! I much prefer the flowers and warmer weather over the cold and snow. Great post, have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteIt really is true that you appreciate each season more when you experience each season...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful contrast in your mosaics!
Lovely reminders that spring will appear after Mother Earth has taken a short rest! I do enjoy before and after; then and now photos!
ReplyDeleteI lived for many years in the land of eternal springtime on the equator and have to say that I really enjoy the seasons. They provide a rhythm to the year.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea of "then" and "now" to add a little colour to your post. Just think what you have to look forward to!
Those flowers are awesome! Happy weekdays!

No, I would not wish the winter months away, for they are life giving...rest and nourishment which shall burst forth the springs new found energy and vitality of new growth for the plant life and our owns spirits. Happy Monday, Happy week~
ReplyDeleteI love the seasons! My lilacs look just like yours. Makes you appreciate the spring that much more :) Loved your mosaics.
ReplyDeleteI always look forward to lilac time. When we lived in Kingston I loved to go out and pick lilacs growing along the sides of the back roads and then I'd fill the house with that lovely perfume. Here we have on lilac outside the dining room window and it's lovely to open that window to let the scent drift in.
ReplyDeleteI love your now and then mosaics. I do love the 4 seasons, I just wish winter weren't quite so long.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
Gorgeous blooms. I loved the purple color one.
ReplyDeleteGreat Now and Than! Have a wonderful week,
ReplyDeleteMarkus
Oh thank you for such beautiful pictures! And thank you for your sweet comments and encouragement on my impossibility challenge!
ReplyDeleteI love your "Now and Then" collages. What a great idea.
ReplyDeleteHi,Karen.

Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteYour mosaic is very pretty. I think we all need a rest from gardening (including the plants). Your lilacs and clematis are gorgeous!
Wonderful idea to show your beautiful plants in season and in winter. Lovely. V
ReplyDeleteKaren these pictures are great.Good idea to show the seasons in your garden.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice way to feature your garden through the most dramatic of seasons! I will truly enjoy spring blooms this year- we had new landscaping done last spring and fall after not having any blooming flowers or bushes at all. What a change it will make to the yard! Thank you so much for your visit. It started raining again just a short while ago. The ice is gone, but once again, it's cold and blustery! aahh... winter!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that awesome? I see the changes, and the snow now, but waiting eagerly to see the flowers again.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog and have enjoyed seeing your posts. I like having the four seasons to enjoy all the many colors and different looks as shown by your mosiacs. I will definitely return soon to view more of your blog.---Shannon
ReplyDeleteYour mosaics are wonderful. I love the idea of summer and winter in your photo's. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteDear Karen
ReplyDeleteI think that your garden in spring looks like paradise !! Thanks for your comment.

The photos are lovely, I especially love the blue flowers with the.....is that a Snow Ball?
ReplyDeleteI can see I would love to be in your garden any time of the year. Thanks for sharing. Kathy
Wonderful flowers in your garden. And yes, the Winter made them sleepy...
ReplyDeleteKind regards, Synnöve
What a beautiful garden. It was so nice to see these pictures this morning when everything here is withered and brown.
ReplyDeleteI also enjoy the quiet winter interlude. It makes dreaming about spring so very sweet!
ReplyDeleteWOW! So gorgeous. The flowers are spectacular!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am now a follower:-)
ReplyDeleteEven though I like the 'then' photos the best, winter makes us appreciate the blooms even more when they come. Lovely garden. I'm a clematis-aholic myself.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is lovely...both spring and winter. You are so lucky to be able to grow lilacs. They don't do well in So Cal where I live, nor do magnolia trees with the colored blossoms. We can't grow peonies either which are my favorite flower, but there are compensations, I know! :)
ReplyDeleteWow ! You have a beautiful garden ! These are beautiful photos and I love mosaics. Like you I can't imagine living in a year round bloom garden.. Imagine all the work.. Even though I adore my flowers (they are like my babies :) I appreciate winter for the rest it provides but when spring arrives I can't wait to see the first bloom !
ReplyDeleteSo enjoyed a stroll in your garden looking forward to seeing it again in Spring when snow is gone.
ReplyDeleteWith the busy Holidays here upon us it was nice to take a cue from nature and REST. Your garden is lovely-even in winter. We found you at the Rose Chintz Cottage and we are joining your beautiful blog. I hope you will visit us at the French Hen's Nest and do the same.
