There is nothing like the start of peony season, at least in my garden, to motivate a person to produce a blog post. Poppy, from Poppy View, recently mentioned in an email that she hoped I'd share some soon. She is such an encouraging and thoughtful person.
Being a bit mad for peonies, more will follow. I'll wait till they are wildly abundant before I pick any. Although, perhaps just one on my bedside table might be an idea . . .
In the "silly me" department, I'd thought these were phlox and had been purchased as such at a plant sale some years ago. Claudia, from Mockingbird Hill Cottage, recently showcased hers and identified them as Dames Rocket. One distinguishing characteristic between the 2 plants, she wrote, was that Dames Rocket has four petals and phlox has five.
Either way, it is pretty.
One more peony photo before I introduce you to my current foster cat, who moved in about five weeks ago.
Thank you for visiting!
Karen
Your peonies are beautiful!!! You are so right, there is nothing like a beautiful peony to inspire a blog post is there. I hope that Purl does well with your loving care and will find a new home! xx
ReplyDeleteLove your wonderful peonies, here they just start flowering too. But.....I'm melting for Purl.......Hope she gets the good life she deserves.
ReplyDeleteYour peonies are beautiful and the Dame's rocket, too. I would never have known the difference between them and Phlox! Purl is a beauty - I hope she finds a loving home soon. xo
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are lovely, but Purl, OMG, she could be the twin of my Sloan...seriously they look identical!!

Hello Karen
ReplyDeleteI had Dames Rocket show up in my garden this summer somehow and it is pretty so I'll let it form a clump. My peonies are just starting to open and love to have them in vases in the house too.
The first thing I noticed about Purl was the black fur and her sitting on a white couch. Hopefully she'll find a forever home before long.
Have a good weekend.
Hi there Karen!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog!
I fear my peonies will be rain soaked, by the time I get home!
Yours are beautiful...one of my very favorite flowers....
Perhaps I can pick a few myself!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Oh Karen, look at your beautiful peonies! I am so envious as I love them. I had one many years ago but it petered out. I've been thinking I need a few for my garden but will have to think about it. Dames Rocket, I thought it was phlox too! It is so pretty .Purl is a lovely kitty hope she finds a home soon! Great to see your post!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful surprise to see your beautiful peonies finally debut in such a pretty hue of perfect, pale pink! They are stunning, and I'm certain that their scent is just as lovely, fresh and sweet! I have encountered this variety of my childhood garden, in my sister's neighbourhood, and stop in my tracks each time, to breathe in their signature scent, which I have missed for many, many years.
Purl is adorable. I'm glad that she is spending some time with you, in between residences; she is a lucky kitty!
Thanks for making me smile!
Happy weekend,
Poppy
So pleased you shared your peonies for us all to enjoy as well. Mine were here & gone in a week they had just opened and we had torrential rain so all the petals dropped. I would definitely had said the other plant was Phlox , So ive learned something today . You new resident will certainly love being with you, but I hope someone will offer to take her for ever, enjoy her while she stays.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous peonies! They are so precious indeed! Endless to say that we have no peonies at all in our area, it seems that they don't grow in temperate climates and need cooler ambiances. Purl looks like enjoying her home cosiness!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!

ReplyDeleteI love your peonies too. They are gorgeous. I am glad they are blooming in your garden now. Mine are totally gone. I hope Purl finds a permanent home. She looks so sweet.
ReplyDeleteWonderful flower photos, Karen! I too would have thought those pretty flowers were Phlox. Thank you for telling how to distinguish between the two plants!
ReplyDeletePurl looks so cute. I hope she will find as lovely family as Cameo did.
