☀Sunlit Sunday: Week 2

It's round two for this fourth season of Sunlit Sunday. It was wonderful to see many returning participants last week as well as welcome some new people. It's been quite some time since I've blogged regularly; meeting you here will ensure I come by and get back into this lovely habit.

The sun was making the lake twinkle and I enjoyed seeing how the rocks show off their colours with greater intensity when wet. This year, I need to get outside more and soak up the winter weather. I was listening to someone being interviewed on TV. He was talking about cycling in Toronto during this season and mentioned that there was a saying in Copenhagen, "There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing." With that in mind, some warm long underwear is in order. I wonder who makes it in tall sizes. Snow pants are a bit much for some days, a pair of jeans or cords just not enough for a long walk and I love getting into the fresh, crisp air! It helps keep the cobwebs at bay and is good for the body and soul.

Cameo, my foster, comes with a built-in warm coat and spends her time indoors. My first foster, (Claire) was with me about 5 months, the second (Hope) for under 2. We'll have to see about this pretty and friendly 9 year old. She's off to a local pet store tomorrow to be showcased for a few hours. I must say, the group I volunteer with is pretty picky about who adopts the cats and dogs in their care.

Fortunately, Cameo hasn't been tempted to nibble on the Christmas cactus. I'd be very pleased to see a profusion of blooms one day, but it has yet to produce more than a few in any given year. I should read more about how to care for it. I think I said that last year. And the year before. Any tips?

Thank you for your visit. All are welcome to join in this week; your posts are a treat to read!

Here we go!

  1. Hello Karen
I always enjoy linking to Sunlit Sunday even though it is Summer on my side of the planet!
Where I live our climate is temperate and even in the winter months I can go for a walk in the park or along the shoreline dressed in a pair of jeans.
I always wer a woollen jumper and carry my lightweight Goretex wind jacket!
Cameo's fur coat seems to echo the colours of those beautiful river stones!
She looks so content and happy.

    Thank you for hosting Karen.
    Shane :)

  2. Lovely water photo - and the tree is great. We mostly have chilly and rainy weather here in the Pacific Northwest in the winter - but the sunshine can be glorious. I have no helpful ideas for making the cactus bloom - my mom had one for years and years and she said she just neglected it all year and began watering in the early winter and it was always covered with blooms by christmas.

  3. Famous sunny photos and a sweet cat!
I was doing nothing, but my big old Christmas cactus had all the years many many flowers. Think, the one has and the other hasn't - thats normally life (in my garden I have lilies, what never have blooomed, no one in all the years...)
Have a great and sunny sunday

  4. I have a Christmas cactus too and I'm afraid to say I neglect it most of the year in a corner of the greenhouse. In November I put it inside and from December it's flowering and it still does. Love your sunlit pictures, your cat looks adorable and enjoys the sun.
Wish you a happy and sunny Sunday, here it's gloomy, rainy and sad, I am looking forward to spring.

  5. Such lovely sunny moments. I hope that Cameo had a good time on her outing and is well on the way to a new home very soon. She looks like a lovely cat indeed. No tips on the cactus though I am afraid. I bought one myself before Christmas and although it still has buds, they are not coming out yet. I hope that I can keep it alive for future years, but I am not very good at houseplants. I hope that yours keeps going and that you can find out how to encourage it to have more flowers! Hope you have a good week. xx

  6. Lovely images ... especially the water -- there's just something about water! Calming and peaceful perhaps. My Christmas cactus just started blooming. I really have no tips -- just a lot of hope! I hope Cameo enjoys her adventure today. All of my kitties are rescues -- the last being from a local No Kill shelter. I felt like I was applying for a security clearance, but that's okay. People should be screened before they get a pet (or have a child) !!!!!!! Happy Sun Lit Sunday and Thanks for hosting!

  7. The sun and water sparkling on the rocks is lovely. We've been fortunate with some sunny days but it has been frigid with cold. We do try to get out for a walk every day even if some of the walks are rather short when it is so cold. I cut my Christmas cactus back last year and it looks a bit sad but it is finally starting to send out some new growth.
Blogger won't let me comment with my Wordpress account and is forcing me to use an old abandoned Google one :(

  12. Interesting photos Karen and, of course, Cameo looks adorable sunning herself. It was nice and sunny all day until about 15 minutes ago. It was even mild at -5! Thanks for hosting and I hope you have some sunshine this week.

  13. Sometimes I want to be a cat and just curl up in the sunshine for a snooze. Cameo has the right idea! My Christmas cactus did nothing this year - not one bloom. I neglect it dreadfully and probably didn't begin watering it soon enough. Thanks again for hosting, Karen.
