Last weekend was a beautiful one for the local Peony Festival. This is one of many beds in the garden that features over 300 varieties of peonies. I wonder if the number of cameras there rivaled the number of plants.
Some featured entertainment included these three young women who played pieces of Chinese music, in recognition of the significance of the peony as China's national flower. I did, however, hear them slip in their rendition of "Red River Valley".
Thank you for visiting. I may be a bit slow in responding to your comments as my laptop is out for repairs and the netbook tends to slog along. I will get back to you, though!
Hoping you have plenty of blooms to enjoy,
Karen
It would be wonderful to attend a Peony Festival. Thanks for sharing the pretty photos.
ReplyDeleteThe peonies are absolutely gorgeous, Karen! I'm looking forward to seeing your peonies too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Karen. Very few peonies were open when we were at the RBG last week. I've only been to this festival once and it sure does motivate people to grow more peonies. :-)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful festival to enjoy; lucky you!
ReplyDeletePeonies are such pretty flowers, and I love their fragrance too.
I loved the white peony with the yellow center..... gorgeous.
Looking forward to seeing the pictures of your peonies.

Beautiful photos of the peonies. Are these the same ones that Judith shared about? I really need to buy a peony plant or get one from a friend. Pam
ReplyDeleteA peony FESTIVAL?! My goodness, Karen, just when I was starting to 'move on' (after being 'stood up' this spring), you present us with a pageant of peonies, and consequently, I am lovesick, again.
ReplyDeleteThey're gorgeous. Every single one. I am not surprised at all the cameras. I, of course, would have been to busy for pics, having more pressing matters to attend to: like picking my jaw up off the floor. Thanks for sharing.
Looking forward to your own lovelies, soon!!
Poppy
They are stunning!!! You must have had a wonderful time, the scent would be amazing I imagine. I look forward to seeing your peonies which are just as beautiful I am sure. Hope that the laptop is better soon! xx
ReplyDeleteI have to say these are one of my favourites. I always think it's such a shame they don't last very long or they certainly don't where we are as it's so windy across the fens. We do try tying them back to a stake but not always successful. I have the bowl of beauty in my garden and they are stunning.
ReplyDeleteNo peonies here, they probably grow in colder countries but I simply adore them. Wish I could join you, such a special event!
ReplyDeleteSending love, Olympia
Oh how wonderful! I love the musical touch, too. They are just my favourite flower, hands-down, and mine are about to pop into bloom any day now! Thanks for sharing this lovely post.
ReplyDeletePeonies are so beautiful regardless of the variety!...:)JP
ReplyDeleteKaren...I fell head over heels in love with peonies through my blogging friends. None to speak of grow here in the Deep South USA. I did try to outwit nature and plant some. I was rewarded with two gorgeous pink blooms! The others that came up are just nice little twigs with a few leaves! Through research, I have discovered that very early bloomers may perform here...so giving that a go next year. I think I would absolutely swoon at a Peony Festival...stand by with the smelling salts! Hoping your garden rewards you richly in peony prettiness! More lovely photos, please!
ReplyDeletePeonies have long come and gone here this spring. They are such beautiful flowers. I love the double ones. I never knew there were that many varieties though. Your photos of them are lovely.
ReplyDeleteA peony festival would be a delight. They are such pretty flowers, all ruffled and jagged. Love the idea of music playing as you wander through the peonies.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, Just catching up with you here. The peonies are gorgeous! I love peonies. Most of mine bloomed last week while I was on vacation and the wind and rain took care of the rest this week. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning festival! I love your first shot of all the photographers in action. Can you believe I don't have any peonies in my garden?!!! I need to add some...Which is your favorite variety?
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great event! I would've been going nuts with pictures! That's so neat that the violinists were playing traditional Chinese music. I bet it felt very special being there! Good heavens I had no idea there were so many varieties of peonies. I remember when I bought mine, I said I want a pink, a red and a white! LOL
ReplyDeleteJust dropping to say Hi Karen!
ReplyDeleteLove to see the beautiful peony festival and people get together there!!
Have a good day.
I'd be drunk on the scent of all of those peonies at once! :)
