A Quick Break in the Day

I'm taking a break for a few minutes.

I've been dealing with my miniscule linen cupboard: pitching things, reorganzing, discovering so-that's-where-the-stopper-is-for-the-hot-water-bottle, wondering why so many containers of cleaners have so little product left in them, and how I've accumulated all of those shampoos and conditioners.

Moving on to the bedroom dresser, do I really ever intend to wear that again and when did the dust bunnies move underneath the furniture and propagate?

I've started in on a whole-house clean, scour, pitch, give away, recycle extravaganza.

So long, Procrastination!

When I find my new(er) house, this little home needs to be ready to be put on the market, all pretty and sparkly clean. Note I said "when" not "if". My house hunt didn't didn't yield any results last year, so my eyes are peeled once again.

As I said, though, I'm taking a quick break. I may not be able to smell the roses (there is snow outside), but I can take a sniff of the grocery store tulips that I picked up Saturday evening. It's funny how one pretty spot can motivate a person to create some more.

What's new with you?

I'll be sure to return your visit, somewhere between finding out what's lurking beneath the beds and figuring out how to repair a bookcase. Bye for now!

  1. Beautiful tulips Karen,
    I love that colour.

I'm sitting here drinking a cuppa
and thinking that I need to empty the dishwasher, or maybe I'll leave it and hope that one of the kids will do it
but if I do that if might be next week before we have dishes to use!!!

Have a lovely day decluttering and sorting!

  2. Love the tulips.. my favorite flower. I did get some cleaning done today, not much and then had a wonderful lunch with a friend.

  3. Nice tulips Karen, I bought some pink ones today. I've done a bit of cleaning of cupboards and like you, my linen closet is very small. I'm always looking for more places to store linens.

  4. NEw cast on for a shawl...great yarn. It makes me smile
Been working a LOT . that means very little knitting
    TONIGHT catch up!

  5. Hi Karen,
Lovely peach tulips! So very pretty! Good for you starting Spring cleaning! It is like a breath of fresh air tidying & getting rid of all of the little extras that move in over the winter. Love the peach tulip against the navy yarn on the needles ;0)
    All the Best,

  6. Your tulips are so pretty. I can't wait until spring! it's going to be 66 degree's on Saturday...snow on the ground now...go figure.

  7. I'm doing a lot of procrastinating today and I wish I had your enthusiasm for dispelling clutter. Instead, I sat on the couch and read a book.
Those peach tulips are so pretty! Enjoy your spring cleaning!

  8. OH I love the tulips - they are so bright - just the thing for a nice break. Have fun looking for your new house - when it appears you will know it. We looked at our house outside on Saturday - viewed it on Sunday - put in an offer first thing Monday and it was accepted on Monday afernoon - when it is right - it is right. Can't wait to see what you find.

  9. Your tulips are pretty! Mine opened up more and I took a few shots yesterday. I don't envy you at the prospect of moving, but I do know how exciting it can be and wish you luck in your search! My son and his wife just entered the ring of trying to buy a first home. The first one they really wanted get grabbed right under their feet (they didn't act fast enough) and the 2nd is someone who left to move back to China and the communiction stinks. They are getting broken in quickly!

  10. Oh, you're doing your spring cleaning! I really need to do that. My brother came to visit for overnight and I was busy cleaning things that I've put off for weeks. I love the colour of your tulips and your photos are very pretty. See you when you get back from your house cleaning. May this be the year for you to find a new house!! Blessings. Pam

  11. Your tulips are a lovely color, Karen! Soon your house will be all sparkly clean and ready for someone to buy it, once you find your new home.
I'm having a giveaway on my blog. Hope you will stop by.

  13. Ι'm doing exactly the same things at home. I can never resist at tuilps! Sooo beautiful.

  14. Your tulips are splendid! Good luck on repairing the bookshelf. I'm off to another doctor appointment - dull, dull, dull.

  15. How lovely, dear Karen! Your tulips are stunning! I have a nice bunch of yellow ones right now here on my table.
I often wonder the same- how did I manage to accumulate so many bottles of everything? Cleaners, shampoos etc- my goal this year is to cut them down, and most of all, learn how to keep my home free from that chaos!
    Monica xoxo

  16. Those orange tulips just take my breath away Karen!
    Enhanced by your great photographs.
Oh I WISH you hadn't mentioned "under the bed" - I've been putting it off for too long - time for me to be BRAVE too!!!
Sending you some summer sunbeams from my corner of the world!
    and a Kiwi hug too!
    Shane ♥

  17. As I was dressing this morning and looking for a particular shirt, I was throwing things right and left from drawers and grumbling about the amount of clothes I have (definitely not a Third World problem) and telling myself that I had better get started on a cleaning (out, not up) campaign tomorrow morning. It is amazing how quickly things can get out of hand.

Thanks for the inspiration and the photo of the lovely tulips.

    Have a wonderful Friday!

  18. I should get motivated as well before the garden season distracts me from household chores. I bet it feels great to have everything tidy and organized. I hope your house search turns up something this spring. Have a great weekend!

  19. Your tulips look splendid and what a fantastic colour to brighten your day. I keep looking at cupboards, drawers and nooks and crannies, waiting for the sun to come out again so the spring cleaning can begin in earnest.

Have a wonderful weekend. Chel x

  20. Hi Karen! Best wishes with your cleaning and purging and organizing! There may be some organizations such as homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and Ronald McDonald House that would gladly take your travel size shampoos, conditioners, etc. I know I used to donate mine to the R.M. House - not sure if you have those in Canada though. Your tulips are very pretty. A breath of spring!
    Hugs, Beth

  21. House cleaning.... It's a never ending chore ! Arghhhhhh.... :)
It's such a beautiful post Karen. It's so good to see these beautiful tulips and their vibrant colour ! I didn't buy any flowers from the florist this winter but now that I've seen these I may stop at the florist tonight and see what I could buy. :)
