Obsessed

It's true.

I've been a little bit obsessed with peonies lately. I love their colours, fragrance, and the memories they evoke of my mother and her fondness for them.

I think it rather marvelous that a peony can be planted and still happily add beauty to its surroundings decades later. Some people manage that very same thing. Not me, I've been a bit grumpy lately.

Today, however, is a new day. A four mile walk on a lovely pathway, a good round at a cardio class, and a freshly picked bouquet of peonies have brightened things up around here. Also, it may be raining, but there are a couple of planter boxes in the basement with new coats of blue stain. I'm wondering if it is the stain that is holding the old wooden planters together!

Ahhh . . .
a waft of peony perfume just came across the room.

Obsessed, yes.

There was even a Peony Festival on the weekend.

I am not the woman in the centre. Nor am I one of the women wearing a pot of tulips. Really.

Did I mention I'd been grumpy?
No longer.

I'm snuggled in at home, feeling fine, and enjoying the remaining spring days.

Have you a current obsession that makes you smile?

I'm linking with the Cottage Garden Party at Fishtale Cottage. Why not take a look?

Note: I've added a Bloglovin link in the right sidebar, if you'd care to follow along that way.

  1. Did you buy a peony at the festival? There's a few more I'd like but the backyard is becoming a shade garden. Hmm, I see a few bare spots in the front!
I really look forward to the peonies blooming too Karen, for the memories they bring. I'm entering 2 in our garden club flower show tonight.

  6. Oh the flowers are so beautiful. I love flowers most any time - any where. One thing that made me smile to day was when Don brought me flowers from the grocery store when he went shopping. We have so many flowers in the yard that we could pick - but he thought I might need something different that we don't have. Smile!!

  7. Your peonies are just gorgeous! It has been so cold and rainy here that mine are mostly still buds. But today was warmer and the sun did shine and a couple are starting to open. I'm glad you are no longer grumpy. :)

  8. Peonies are one of my many flower favourites too. It' s not so bad to have an obsession for peonies. At this moment I have an obsession for jackdaws. They have a nest with noisy babies in the dovecote in front of my verandah. I am already waiting and looking for days to see the little birds flying out, I don't want to miss it.

  12. Karen, Peonies are one of my favorite flowers. My grandfather had two huge white peony plants on either side of his front steps. I regret not taking a start when his home was sold. Thank you so much for visiting me and leaving a comment. Have a wonderful week. Bonnie

  21. Your peonies are beautiful!! I don't think I can grow them here because of the heat, but I keep hearing how wonderful their scent is. I love to have cut flowers in the house. It really brightens my day when I can see flowers in vases around the house. :) Your pic of the raindrop covered one is postcard-worthy! Enjoy your day!

  24. They are gorgeous Karen! You have every reason to be obsessed! I was pretty obsessed with my store bought peonies a few weeks ago. I can only imagine how I would jump for joy if I had some growing in the yard. Unfortunately, its not cold enough in my parts. So cute you went to a peony festival though :)

  27. Good Evening Karen, There is nothing like a good long walk to clear the head and get rid of the blues.... and not forgetting your lovely peonies. I am adding my name to the list of ladies who love peonies....oops sorry also Hakan. I think I love them because they remind me so much of roses. I bought three lovely pink peonies last week and put them in a small jug, they made me smile each time I looked at them.
The peonies that you have shared with us all are just beautiful and how could we not break out into a smile when we see the ladies with tulip pots on their heads??? it must have been very hot inside the pots.
Your photographs are as beautiful as always.
    Best Wishes

  30. Hi Karen,

I am in awe of your perfectly pretty peonies - no wonder you're obsessed! I have loved these most enchanting flowers since I was a little girl and like you, my admiration for these precious petals started with my mom's love for them. It was the subject of one of my earliest posts. I have been obsessed with them and the memory of them, ever since and I searched florist after florist to grow my own here, but was told that they are not suited to this Cretan climate. Your photos are SO beautiful, thanks for sharing with someone who desperately needed her own little portion of peony paradise!

    Poppy
